Whether you’re brand new to the scene, or you’ve been tanning since phones had cords, you can trust your Salon Specialists at Classic Tan & Rush Tan to help you achieve your most desired color.

Our salons feature a full range of indoor sunbeds & booths that range from a relaxing 20-minute, low intensity, melanin boosting session, to some of the most advanced, State of the Art technology available in the world of indoor tanning like a Level 6 high-pressure bronzing session.

How Does Tanning Work?

The sun creates UV light, which is responsible for tanning and is divided into two main types: UVA or UVB.  UVB is responsible for production of Vitamin D and melanin.  UVA’s main role is oxydizing melanin, giving you that beautiful, cinnamon bronze you crave.

Your body needs sunshine like it needs food, air, and water!  Never sunburn!

The Cardinal Rules of Tanning

  • Slow & Steady

    • You do not “tan better when you burn”.  You burn when you burn.  Burning is bad!  Never try to hurry a tan by overexposing yourself and always consult your Salon Specialist for exposure time recommendations if you’re unsure.
    • Never exceed 1 tanning session per 24 hours.  Not only does Illinois State Law prohibit this, but it’s just not worth it.  Your body is still going through the process of melanin production & oxidation for 24-36 hours after your session.
    • We recommend 1 session, every other day, until you achieve your desired results.  Retain your desired color by tanning 1 to 3 times per week, depending on your bed level.
  • Know your skin type

When you first sign up with us, you are given a short questionnaire that we use to determine your skin type.  Please take the time to answer this accurately, as our recommendations for you will be based on the information your provide.

Based on your skin type, we will offer recommendations for sunbed/sunbooth exposure.  You should follow these recommendations.

  • Use Skincare Products

    • Using Salon Quality indoor tanning lotion allows you to achieve desired results up to 68% faster than using no lotion at all
    • Use of a Salon Quality lotion allows you to keep your color longer, meaning you have to tan less each week.
    • Avoid the attractive glimmer of a cheap, big box store brand lotion and online counterfeit deals.  As with most things, you really do get what you pay for.
      • Your skin should not be something you apply cheaply made products that feature bottom-of-the-barrel ingredients to.
    • Use less of your regular tanning lotion by using a tan extending moisturizer as your every-day moisturizer (after a bath or shower, for example).  They’re called tan extenders for a reason, and they really do work!
    • No more after-tan odor!  We’ve all smelled it before: tanning without lotion.  Yes, it sticks with you after you leave, and yes, people around you can smell it, too.
  • Wear your Tanning Goggles!

    • Always – always – ALWAYS wear your protective eyewear.  It’s not even an option not to.  You can do permanent, terrible damage to your eyes by tanning without them.
